Someone asked me the other day, “What year are you in school,” to which I replied, “I’m in high school.” I immediately wondered if I really just said that out loud. Seems like it’s fair My first day of freshman year the other day. Ever since I chose Endicott, I expected the excitement, nerve and success of the internship program. Having successfully completed my first two requirements, I now need to address my final requirement.
This semester I am an intern at Novitá Communications. This marketing and communications agency is headquartered in New York City, with a sister agency Novità Italia in Milan, Italy, and offices in the South, Midwest, West Coast and New England. The agency works with brands, creatives, innovators and thought leaders locally and globally to provide clients and industry professionals with expertise in architecture, design and real estate, creative and culinary arts, technology, health and wellness and sustainability.
While working from home has always been a reality for some and only recently for others, this shift is new to me. This is the first time I’ve been working fully remotely since the first few months of the pandemic. Here are just a few ways I’ve adapted to working from home and plan to stay connected over the next few weeks.
- Create a comfortable environment
As I awaited the excitement and nervousness of starting my new position, my biggest concern was how I would remain productive. Since I wasn’t in school, I could always create a defined space to do my work. I knew being at home in my own bedroom would allow me to control noise and distractions. However, I also got to know my bedroom as a place of relaxation as I traveled back and forth between school and home. I was worried about getting into bad habits, such as B. working from the comfort of my bed or hanging out with my dog all the time. To keep myself away from these distractions, I took action by…
- Buy a comfortable chair
- Keep only the essentials at my desk
- Maintains warm and inviting light
- Clean up and tidy up at the end of each working day
- Light a candle or diffuse essential oils
- Maintaining a connection…literally
Of course, another big concern was how I would ensure I could communicate fully online with the team members at all times. I think we can all remember a time when the internet connection dropped and it felt like the world stopped. My biggest fear when it came to doing school remotely during the pandemic was not being fully present because I couldn’t access what I needed in the moment. To calm my nerves, I’ve swapped out several WiFi extender options. There are various brands and products in numerous styles that can give your internet a boost. I can now say that being productive and staying in touch with my team has never been easier with a stable internet connection.
- Health
As college students, we need to maintain and create solid routines to keep up with personal hygiene and stay healthy. Cleaning on Mondays. laundry on sunday Working from home is no different and establishing a routine is just as important. The critical part of working from home that I’ve realized requires the most attention when it comes to health and wellness is getting up. I started getting up at the same time every morning and immediately made my bed. I would argue that the first step to being productive is to move away from the area you devote to sleeping. As tempting as it is, I’ve also realized the importance of removing your pajamas and changing into casual/work attire. These simple things helped me in the transition, but I’m sure there are more life lessons to come.
