The Lane Council of Governments (LCOG) is currently recruiting for an Assistant or Staff level position with duties and responsibilities within the Planning Program area of ​​LCOG.

Position Purpose: The primary functions of the LCOG planning program are to support long-term and ongoing land use planning project work (typically supporting state and federal grants and local government projects) as assigned. The program provides associates with expertise in facilitation, plan and code changes, and economic and other strategic planning. Although it is expected that the new employee will initially take on longer-term planning tasks, the new position will cover a remainder of planning tasks. This position provides planning, data and systems analysis services in these areas; secures and utilizes resources; creates maps, graphs and reports; and represents the organization at various community, state, federal, and other agency meetings.

The newly hired planner reports officially to the planning manager while working alongside a team of planners directly under the project and contract management oversight of other employees. They often work with transportation and natural resource planners, land use advocates, and GIS analysts.

Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, land use, natural resources, environmental science or transportation planning. The Associate Planner rating requires a minimum of three years of experience working on land use, transportation, natural resource, or other planning projects, or a combination of education and experience that provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and ability necessary for execution of work are required.

Familiarity with Oregon land use planning and operating environments is preferred and the ability and willingness to keep current is required.

Education and/or experience in land use planning.
