PAMPORE: Experts from the Range Khrew Wildlife Department, together with Pampore Police and Joint Control Room (JCR) Pampore, have sedate and trapped a black bear that was roaming in a residential area in the Galander neighborhood of Saffron Town Pampore in the Pulwama district of south Kashmir on Tuesday.
The bear was sighted by residents in a residential area in Gujjar Basti Galander near the Srinagar-Jammu national road.
After receiving a call about the bear’s presence near a residential area and a joint wildlife, police and forestry team led by SDPO Pampore Mir Imtiyaz Ahmad, Wildlife Range ranger Khrew Khursheed Ahmad rushed to the scene with stun guns and caught the black bears an hour-long operation, officials told the Kashmir reader.
Panic gripped the farmers who were working in the karevas these days when they saw a roaming bear.
Speaking to Kashmir reader Ghulam Nabi Bajraan, he said his two young children went near a spot to get some grass for the cattle.
He said they were being chased by the bear and narrowly escaped.
He said that they informed SDPO Pampore Mir Imtiyaz Ahmad SHO Pampore Adil Ashraf about the presence of the wild bear in Galander area.
SDPO Pampore Mir Imtiyaz Ahmad told Kashmir Reader that he received a call from locals that a bear was hiding in corn fields near Galander Pampore.
“I rushed to the spot immediately and informed wildlife officials,” he said, adding that they, along with a team of wildlife officials and the police, captured the animal after an hour.
He hailed the wildlife department officials for capturing the wild bear and saving the lives of the saffron farmers who work in the Karevas today.
Speaking to Kashmir Reader Khurshid Ahmad, Ranger Wildlife Range Khrew, he said he received a message from SHO Pampore on Tuesday morning about the presence of a wild bear in a residential area in Galander.
“An expert team from Khrew Range, Pampore Police and JCR Pampore Weed were deployed to the scene,” he said.
They added that they managed to calm the bear in the first shot.
He appreciated SDPO Pampore Mir Imtiyaz Ahmad and SHO Pampore Adil Ashraf for working with them.
Block Officer Wildlife Range Khrew Mudasir Ahmad, who led the expert team, said they received information from Pampore Police that a backed bear hiding in a corn field caused panic among local people in the area.
He said after receiving information about the black bear straying near a residential area, a team of officials from the Wildlife Department, Joint Control Room Pampore, arrived at the site and calmed the bear without anyone being hurt.
Locals also appreciated the Pampore Wildlife Department and Police Department for their quick action. People in the area breathed a sigh of relief after the joint team captured the black bear.
