Actor Jeremy Renner has undergone two surgeries at a Nevada hospital after suffering serious injuries in a “tragic” snow shoveling accident.

“We can confirm that Jeremy suffered blunt force trauma to the chest and orthopedic injuries and underwent surgery today (January 2),” Renner’s family said in their original statement. “He has returned from surgery and remains in the intensive care unit in a critical but stable condition.”

At a news conference Tuesday (January 3), Washoe County Sheriff Darren Balaam described how a family member was driving Renner’s car when it got stuck in the snow.

“He went to retrieve a PistenBully or SnowCat—a very large piece of snowmobile equipment—to get his car moving,” Balaam said. After moving the car from the stuck spot, Mr. Renner of PistenBully got out to talk to a family member and it started rolling.

“He tried to get into the driver’s seat of PistenBully, and at this point he got run over by PistenBully.”

A neighbor said the plow accidentally ran over one of the actor’s legs, despite a host of safety features, resulting in massive blood loss.

In his first post since the accident, Renner shared a selfie from his hospital bed with the caption: “Thank you all for your kind words. [sic] Too messed up now to write. But I am sending love to all of you.”

Renner, 51, has been met with an outpouring of support from his fans and Marvel co-stars, including Chris Hemsworth, Taika Waititi, and Chris Pratt.

What are the police checking?

Police announced that the investigation into Renner’s accident is still ongoing.

During Sheriff Balaam’s press conference on Tuesday (3 January), he said they do what they usually do after any major incident.

Right now, PistenBully is in their possession while they analyze it to “rule out any mechanical failure” that might have caused it to start rolling.

However, they do not suspect any “foul play” and believe that it was just a “tragic” accident.

Renner posts first video update from the ICU

ICYMI: Earlier today (January 5), the Marvel star shared his second update on social media since the accident.

In video form, he posted a “spa moment” from the intensive care unit, featuring his sister Kim shampooing his hair.

“This is definitely the first shower in a week or so. Total!” joked.

What was Renner doing when he was injured?

There were mixed reports as to what exactly Renner was doing before he was run over by snow plows.

But, according to Sheriff Balaam’s press conference on Tuesday (January 3), Renner was a “great neighbor” and plowed snow for the houses around him.

Then, at one point, the actor went to retrieve his personal car, which was driven by a member of his family, which got stuck in the snow.

Once he had successfully pulled his car from its stuck position, he got out of the PistenBully to talk to a member of his family when the PistenBully started rolling.

Based on the ongoing investigation, “At this point, Mr. Renner was run over by Pistenbully. An eyewitness detailed seeing Mr. Renner entering PistenBully and not seeing him again until PistenBully came to rest in a mound of snow in front of his driveway.”
