The stakes are high for local communities:

  • Americans who are still eligible for Medicaid coverage may be deemed ineligible because their eligibility redetermination attempts were unsuccessful, causing them to lose eligible coverage due to administrative or paperwork issues.
  • Americans who are determined to be ineligible for Medicaid may be uninsured because they cannot find other sources of coverage — placing a greater burden on local hospitals, health systems, employers, and taxpayers.
  • Providers who treat Americans with Medicaid coverage may not have a source of reimbursement.
  • The affordability of other types of coverage may be affected by changes in cost.
