NVIDIA Launches Omniverse Cloud SaaS platform | Geo Week News

NVIDIA hopes Omniverse Cloud can make 3D creation accessible to everyone by eliminating the need for specialized hardware.

The idea of a connected platform on which industrial, architectural and other facilities can be modeled with real-world physics and pixel-perfect replication is nearing completion. At NVIDIA’s GTC conference, they announced a way to make their vision for Omniverse more accessible to more users: Omniverse Cloud.

This is NVIDIA’s first software-as-a-service offering of its kind, moving Omniverse away from running on specialized hardware and toward a comprehensive cloud platform for modelers. Based on the Universal Scene Description format, NVIDIA positions Omniverse as the primary site for 3D development across a variety of industries, including several key AEC partners for digital twin and as-built model development.

With Omniverse Cloud, individuals and teams can design 3D workflows and collaborate without the need for local computing power—which has been a barrier to these graphics-heavy simulations for those without the necessary hardware. Within Omniverse Cloud, this opens up a potential wealth of use cases. From enabling roboticists to virtually test and deploy AI-enabled smart machines before a single part is soldered, to autonomous vehicle engineers generating physically-based sensor data and simulating traffic scenarios to assess a variety of road and weather conditions for safe driving to test the use of self-propelled vehicles.

“The Metaverse, the 3D Internet, connects 3D virtual worlds described in dollars and viewed through a simulation engine,” said Jensen Huang, NVIDIA founder and CEO. “With Omniverse in the cloud, we can connect teams worldwide to design, build and operate virtual worlds and digital twins.”

Building on the partnership announced earlier this year, Siemens, a leading provider of hardware and software for industrial automation, is working closely with NVIDIA to leverage Omniverse Cloud and NVIDIA OVX™ infrastructure together to provide solutions from the Siemens Xcelerator business platform.

“An open ecosystem is a key design principle for the Siemens Xcelerator digital business platform,” said Tony Hemmelgarn, president and CEO of Siemens Digital Industries Software.

“We’re excited to expand our partnership with NVIDIA, developing integrations between Siemens Xcelerator and Omniverse Cloud, and enabling an industrial metaverse where companies can remotely connect their organizations and work in real-time across the product and production lifecycle.”
