Our laboratory at New York University Abu Dhabi expands our team of experts working on molecular networks and analysis of bioactive molecules in animal development C. elegans. We use multidisciplinary approaches to uncover mechanisms underlying fundamental biomolecular and biochemical processes during embryonic development. A long-standing interest in the laboratory is the study of molecular and genetic networks during development and evolution (for some examples see Nature 436 (7052), 861-865; Science 330 (6012), 1775-1787; Science 330 (6012), 1775-1787; cell 134(3), 534-545) as well as identifying genetic and chemical disorders to study their function (for some examples see, cell 145(3):470-82; Nature 434(7032):462-9; natural chemical biology 3(1), 55-59; development 143(19):3540-3548).
As a result of the recent discoveries of new bioactive molecules from large-scale, high-throughput screens, we are now trying to set up a team to exploit the newly discovered compounds for new fundamental discoveries of C. elegans Development and towards pre-clinical work, particularly for novel anthelmintics. Three of the areas we want to build on are:
Research associate/postdoctoral researcher in the field of analytical metabolomics in C. elegans using NMR Work on biological and biophysical NMR spectroscopy in the fields of metabolomics and protein NMR. The research includes the development and optimization of NMR methods, both in the liquid and in the solid state, e.g in vivo and on site Metabolomics studies with C. elegans, along with protein dynamics and interaction determinations. Candidates for this position must have a PhD in chemistry, biotechnology, biophysics or related disciplines and have well-documented experience in biomolecular NMR. Experimental skills in liquid and solid-state NMR spectroscopy are required, as well as sound computer skills. Expertise in expression and purification of labeled proteins is also preferred, as are other skills in biochemical analysis. (Please use “NMR‘ when answering this position).
Research Associate/Postdoc in Metabolomics Modeling with C. elegans and nematodes to build in silico Models of molecular and biochemical networks based on transcriptome, metabolome and genome data. This position requires having worked with C. elegans or a similar model and demonstrated ability to analyze metabolomic data and ideally already integrate this data with other -omic data such as genetic and transcriptome data. Candidates should have a PhD in bioinformatics, computational biology, biology or related fields and have a proven ability to work with model organism databases and integrate -omic data. You will join a group that is highly motivated with expertise ranging from computer skills to the use of cell biology and genetics C. elegans. It is a vibrant and multicultural group that includes members who work in shared lab spaces as well as others who work in the New York lab.
The successful candidate will join a group led by Prof. Fabio Piano for the Abu Dhabi lab and all candidates must be able to obtain a work visa in the UAE. The initial contract would be for two years with a standard probationary period and is subject to final budgetary approval.
