When you arrive at the Sofitel Fiji you have two choices. You’ll be invited to either the exclusive adults-only “escape” or the main resort, which is a bit like a tropical Disneyland for kids. Either way, this hotel is one of your top choices in Denarau, mainland Fiji’s premier resort town.
The place
The sprawling resort is spread over 26 hectares, with most of it taken up by the general hotel and its huge lagoon-style pool with a waterslide and splash areas.
The adult-only zone feels like a separate resort, with a much quieter vibe.
The space
We stayed in the adults only wing known as the Waitui Beach Club. The spacious rooms have a luxurious bed, a bathroom with double sinks, a huge shower and a free minibar and snacks that are replenished daily.

The facilities
If you’re in the adults-only wing, you’ll relax the most at the Waitui Beach Club. Breakfast and dinner are served by the pool overlooking the sea. There are also dozens of places to relax, including loungers, beachfront cabanas, and a swim-up bar.
A waiter will roam around with complimentary refreshments during lunch, then again at sunset with canapés and cocktails.

On the family-friendly side of the resort, you’ll find the Niu Beach Club for children between the ages of three and twelve. You’ll get access to a mini water park, a climbing wall, a trampoline, a beach playhouse, and three indoor play areas.
There is also a water slide and a “teen zone” with lots of interactive games including car racing, air hockey and PlayStation.
There’s also plenty of space for adults to lounge on lounge chairs, or you can buy a day pass for the adults-only zone.
The food
For adults only Waitui Bar and Grill offers a romantic candlelit atmosphere next to the pool with exceptional food; It is one of the top rated restaurants in Fiji.
The hotel has four other restaurants, including a popular buffet and the family-friendly Solis Restaurant on the beach.

Be sure to book some day trips if you’re spending your entire vacation at the Sofitel. While Denarau is a popular jumping-off point, its beaches don’t have the crystal-clear waters that Fiji is known for.
Try the new Seventh Heaven, a floating bar in a lagoon, or the ever-popular Malamala Beach Club – a small private island where you can relax for the day.
Accessibility
A wheelchair-accessible vehicle and rooms are available by prior arrangement.

The adults-only area has its own beach zone.
The judgment
An adults-only paradise on the mainland. It’s also a great stopover option en route to an outer island vacation.
The culmination
The adults-only zone at night – the ambience is extraordinary.
The deep light
The buffet was packed with hundreds of people using the same paraphernalia. I’ve been anti-germ since the outbreak of Covid-19. So if you’re like me, be sure to visit one of the resort’s a la carte restaurants.
