Sony Pictures Home Entertainment revealed on February 2 that it generated $567 million in revenue for the nine-month fiscal period ending December 31, 2022. This is more than 28% of the $442 million in revenue over the prior year period. Third quarter revenue decreased approximately 17% to $145 million from $174 million in the same period last year.
Spider-Man: No way home It was the studio’s best-selling retail release in 2022 following the film’s electronic sale release on March 22, 2022, and its subsequent boxed media release on April 12, 2022.
No going home It was the highest-grossing theatrical release of 2021 and remains the 7th highest-grossing theatrical release of all time with over $1.92 billion in ticket sales.
Overall, Sony Pictures’ operating income fell 83% to $197.4 million from operating income of $1.16 billion during the prior year period. Revenue fell 28% to $2.57 billion from $3.58 billion in the same period last year.
Sony attributed the lower operating income/revenue to unfavorable comparisons with the year-ago quarter, which included Spider-Man: No way home And Venom: Let there be massacre Revenue, among other releases.
Sony’s highest-grossing theatrical release of 2022, Anonymousgrossed $401.7 million in worldwide revenue, including $148.6 million across North American screens.
